This four string wenge/walnut/padauk bass was built for a luthier competition called the Great Guitar Build-Off in 2021. It features a chambered walnut body to reduce weight and increase resonance (even with the weight reduction it still weighs more than a small car). I had carried around the idea for the recessed control panel with contrasting wood for a while when I entered the competition. That idea lead to the lamination and ultimately, the whole design of this bass.
